Kyrie Irving has unveiled a new iteration of the ANTA KAI 1 sneaker – this one an even more personal one than than previous models. Paying tribute to his parent’s bond, Irving enlisted his father, Drederick Irving, to contribute to the sneaker, which he’s aptly entitled the ANTA KAI 1 Speed “Twin Flame.”
A homage to Drederick and Elizabeth Irving’s love, strength, and resilience, Irving’s “Twin Flame” looks to encapsulate the essence of their union and how it laid the groundwork for their son’s legacy.
“Dred and I wanted to build a shoe, with ANTA’s best technologies for players in multiple positions. All of which expand upon Kyrie’s legacy and journey. It was a team effort from the entire US Design Center crew to bring this shoe to life,” said Matt Franklin, ANTA footwear designer.
With that goal in mind, the sneaker is engulfed in a purple colorway with hits of blue – chosen for Elizabeth and Drederick’s favorite colors, respectively. Gold detailing and orange accenting are featured throughout the gradient silhouette, with the front lace loop also showcasing two flame graphics that converge at the center. Rounding out the design profile is the “Big Mountain, Little Mountain” design stamped on the midfoot outsole, which is symbolic of Kyrie and Drederick’s father-son relationship.
