If you want to be a little more like Batman — without wearing hockey pads, of course — and you’re a fan of the Air Max 1, now’s your chance: Nike has released the seminal sneaker in a new black-and-yellow colorway that fans have quickly dubbed “Batman.” Though the fresh style is in no way, shape or form an official collaboration with Batman or DC Comics, its black and “Opti Yellow” color scheme calls to mind images of the Caped Crusader’s signature getup.
This Air Max 1’s most notable details are the punchy yellow Swoosh, tongue and heel branding, visible Air unit and outsole details that pop off its stark background. However, there’s an interesting material medley going on as well. Uppers combine a mesh toebox and collar wih a smooth leather mudguard, suede quarter panels, forefoot detailing and both toe and heel overlays, with a thick nylon tongue completing the assemblage. Down below, white EVA midsoles and dual-toned outsoles round off the look.
At the time of writing, the Air Max 1 “Batman” (or, officially, “Black/Opti Yellow) has yet to receive a release date. However, it’ll likely touch down as part of Nike Sportswear‘s fall 2024 Air Max 1 release slate. When it does, it’ll be priced at $140 USD.
