A’ja Wilson proved once again that she’s one of the WNBA’s biggest threats on the court by leading the Las Vegas Aces to their second consecutive WNBA Championship last season, earning her first WNBA Finals MVP in the process. While she gets ready to take the court for the Aces’ season opener against the Phoenix Mercury tomorrow night, she connected with Nike Basketball to make a very special announcement — her first signature shoe is on the way.
Previously, Wilson oversaw the release of PE colorways, though 2025 will finally see Wilson rock her own model. Word of Caitlin Clark receiving her own signature shoe prompted many to wonder why Wilson hadn’t received the same honor, though, it turns out her own design has been in the works for over a year now. Ben Nethongkome, who most recently worked on the Nike Ja 1, Nike BOOK 1, Nike KD 16 and Nike Sabrina 1, is the lead footwear designer for the project. “My biggest asks were that the shoe was light and comfortable for all the hours I spend on the court, and that it also looks really good. It’s versatile, and I hope people will wear it when they’re hooping but also just when they’re walking around every day. It’s so exciting to be sharing my signature, a piece of me, with the world,” shared Wilson.
At the time of writing, neither A’ja Wilson nor Nike Basketball have announced a release date for the Nike A’One. However, Nike’s announcement post noted that her kicks and accompanying apparel will be arriving in women’s, men’s and kids’ sizing via Nike SNKRS and select retailers globally in 2025. Stay tuned for updates, including a first look at the new silhouette and its debut colorways.
