White Mountaineering and Merrell 1TRL have joined forces again for the Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX. Their new collaboration adopts a much more tech-leaning design than their inaugural collaboration, the 2023 Wrapt Mid Waterproof Sneakers, which took heavy inspiration from vintage hiking boot styles.
While the Moab Speed 2’s chunky Vibram soles and GORE-TEX-equipped uppers are made for trekking trails, the shoe’s clean tonal colorway supplies a seamless transition to daily lifestyle use as well. Subtle white-grey camo print serves as the backdrop for the two collaborators’ overlapping logos along the quarter panels, while the light-to-dark gradient used on the midsoles and quarter panels draw the eyes to the tip of the shoe, creating a feeling of forward movement. The sneaker’s versatile design makes it just as easy to imagine use for both rainy urban pavements and remote dirt paths.
Besides being White Mountaineering and Merrell’s second go-around in as many years, this collaboration also marks the second overall collaborative take on the Moab Speed 2: it was given a fantasy-filled makeover at the hands of House of the Dragon back in July after debuting in February.
The White Mountaineering x Merrell 1TRL Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX will release via the White Mountaineering webstore and at select Merrell stockists September 14. It’s priced at ¥33,000 JPY (approximately $231 USD).
