As shopping for pre-loved goods continues to gain popularity, livestream shopping platform Whatnot is spotlighting its sneaker category in the UK. With vendors currently selling their kicks in its sneakers and streetwear section, the dedicated page will allow buyers to focus their search according to brand, style, or silhouette, and quickly find the sneakers they’re looking for.
“Our love of sneakers has been in full force from when the craze originated in the 1980s. Since then, we’ve seen the sneaker industry boom with sneakerheads at the heart of it all,” explains Whatnot general manager Daniel Fisher of the platform’s sneaker category integration. “Some choose to collect to wear, display or re-sell, it’s a budding micro-industry that’s growing because of the enthusiasm and passion for sneakers, athleisure and being a form of self-expression.”
To celebrate its sneaker category, the platform is partnering with notable London-based sneakerhead Kish Kash to auction his kicks via a livestream on Whatnot UK next Thursday joined by sneaker seller Jed Brailey. Having built his 2,000-piece collection over the past three decades, the upcoming sale is expected to feature sought-after silhouettes from Nike and adidas as well as new models by brands including Saucony. Following the sale, all proceeds will go to Kish Kash’s chosen charity Breast Cancer Now.
During the livestream, the sneaker archivist will also run viewers through Whatnot’s new Re:soled kits. Created in collaboration with shoe care brand Sneaky, it compiles specialist cleaning solutions, brushes, and wipes to restore sneakers and keep them in sellable condition. For those who join the live sale, Kish Kash will be giving away free kits and other sneaker-related prizes from partner sellers.
