Seattle-born Filson has joined forces with Birkenstock to launch their first-ever collection together. Although landing as one of the more unlikely collaborations of the year, the footwear range highlights their shared values in craftsmanship and functional design as well as their long-standing histories.
In the debut offering, the duo brings forth three rustic styles fusing Birkenstock’s renowned footbed with Filson’s woodland-inspired aesthetics. The first of the original silhouettes is the London Methow. Named after its likeness to the original London model, the low-top shoe comprises a tumbled leather upper, a speckled cork sole, and brushed metal loop fastenings. Another city-ready iteration swaps the tumbled leather for swathes of suede in similarly rich brown tones.
Elsewhere, the brands present two boot styles that pose contrasting looks and functionality. Reminiscent of Native American footwear, the cozy Lahti is designed with Mackinaw wool and a liner made of microfleece, allowing it to be worn in the house as a slipper or outside on dry days. The Skykomish, however, lends itself as a hardwearing footwear choice for the harshest of weathers through its multi-layered build featuring Filson’s signature Tin Cloth, textured rubber, and microfiber lining.
To inaugurate the new collaboration, Filson is currently showcasing the footwear models at its new flagship store in Milan. In the 200 sq. ft space, they take center stage against the wood paneling, Aztec-inspired loom rugs, and rails holding the brand’s signature flannel shirts, elevating the outdoorsy collection.
