Since reintroducing the Nike Kobe line last year, Nike Basketball has kept the Kobe 8 Protro in rotation as one of its key offerings. While a bevy of team-oriented colorways are expected to land on shelves later this year, a new rumor from brandon1an regarding the return of the “What The” treatment indicates that that the brand has plenty of adventures looks to come as well.

In 2013, Kobe Bryant and Nike assembled the Nike Kobe 8 System Premium “What The Kobe” — a mash-up of just under 30 Kobe 8 colorways — which last year earned a spot in our round-up of the best Nike “What The” releases of all time. Now, it’s said to be returning as a summer 2025 release. While it’s currently unknown if this will be a recreation of the 2013 pair or an entirely-new take on the theme, it’s sure to draw attention as one of the line’s biggest releases of next year.

At the time of writing, Nike has not confirmed whether or not a “What The” version of the Kobe 8 Protro will be arriving next year. Stay tuned for updates, including a first look at the rumored pair, as it is currently slated to launch next summer via Nike SNKRS and select retailers around the $190 USD price point.
