Benoit Pagotto, Chris Le and Steven Vasilev shook up the digital collectible scene at the turn of the decade with the founding of RTFKT. Just under two years later, Nike acquired the platform, leading to its first range of digital sneakers in 2022. With many projects under their belt since then, their collaborative Dunk Genesis silhouette has now taken center stage. A pre-order for its “Void” colorway went down in November of last year and the remaining 1,000 pairs of its 11,394 total quantity are set to hit SNKRS next month.
Inspired by gaming, the Dunk Genesis utilizes a modular design approach that features removable mods and interchangeable vial attachments, which can be created by owners thanks to RTFKT’s provided 3D files. It also ties to the digital world with an NFC chip that is embedded in each sneaker. Looking closer at the design, the duo have made many changes to the Dunk silhouette as its upper largely leans on the same combination of a base with overlays, though sports unique design elements like the plastic outlines of its overlays and Swooshes, of which the medial Swoosh has been replaced by RTFKT’s logo. Removable parts include the void chamber at the tongue and a heel attachment sporting tonal RTFKT branding throughout. Its bolstered sole unit similarly sees tonal branding with this “Void” colorway leaning on black throughout its build, save for the purple used at the lateral Swoosh and medial RTFKT logo and the blue contained within the vial attachment.
For those interested in grabbing a pair, release for the remaining 1,000 pairs of the RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis “Void” is set to take place via Nike SNKRS on June 13 at a price of $222 USD.
