New Balance is heralding the return of an archival model that could be the next fan favorite among the brand’s Y2K-era runners. The 740, one of the brand’s ealy 2000s running models, is back in new colors and updated with restraint so as to maintain the retro-technical design of the shoe. In a statement Senior Product Manager David Kent said “The updated 740 features some of the same synthetic materials, mesh, and metallic overlays, while introducing new colorways and trim to offer a refreshed contemporary take.”
White wide-gauge mesh underlays are covered by sleek green and silver overlays that radiate diagonally from the collar and eyestays. Reflective accents and contrasting striped ribbon eyelets bring added interest to the upper panels. The brand’s performance ABZORB midsole is tied in with the color scheme of the uppers via dark green outsoles. While the design is poised to satisfy the nostalgia for retro running sneakers, the brand emphasizes the comfortable aspect of the pair that made them well-loved among running enthusiasts.
New Balance gave the 740 a recent refresh with rapper Aminé, generating buzz with the announcement of the bright Blue/Orange BTEE740 model, which is set to arrive on November 1.
The official reissue of the New Balance 740 will launch on October 16 at the brand’s web store and will be available at select retailers on October 20.
