It’s been over a year since Ja Morant and Nike Basketball kicked off their partnership with the introduction of the Nike Ja 1. The low-top sneaker was well received as the brand’s most affordable signature shoe at the time and has continued to periodically release since. However, when it came time for a sequel to arrive a year later, the Ja 1 remained his sole shoe on the market. While Nike has yet to comment on the delay, it’s possibly in response to the off-the-court trouble Morant dealt with that led to him receiving a 25-game suspension from the NBA, as well as his season-ending shoulder injury.
Now, we have our first look at Morant’s second shoe — the Nike Ja 2 — thanks to @prm.cotd, while Sole Retriever has reported on its release details. Based on the brief preview embedded below, the line continues in low-top form as mesh graces the toe box that rests next to leather overlays while a textured synthetic layer backs the midfoot and heel. Another textured pattern adorns the heel counter while Morant continues his midnight theme with a “12AM” hit at this purple “Stargazer” colorway’s heel tab. Large Swooshes are visible at each side of the shoe as Morant’s logo appears at the tongue tag.
At the time of writing, Nike Basketball has not shared any details regarding the upcoming debut of the Nike Ja 2 in this “Stargazer” colorway. Stay tuned for updates, including official visuals, as we currently expect the sneaker to land on shelves starting on October 3 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $120 USD.
