New Balance Japan has announced a new partnership project, “Crafted for the Future,” in collaboration with Sashiko Gals. Sashiko Gals is a community of Japanese artisans who are breathing new life into the country’s traditional sashiko embroidery technique by applying it to contemporary culture. This special collection sees the artisans create limited, hand-stitched versions of the iconic 1300JP silhouette.
This collaborative model features hand-made sashiko fabric patches across the entire upper. These patches are stitched with white, orange, and indigo-blue thread, resulting in a culturally rich Japanese aesthetic full of intricate details. In addition to the footwear, the partnership includes a joint premium varsity jacket inspired by American sports heritage. The jacket also showcases the distinct pattern created by the traditional sashiko stitching technique.
Only two pairs of the Sashiko Gals x New Balance 1300JP and four jackets will be released through a charity-based lottery, exclusively at New Balance Harajuku. Notably, all proceeds from this launch will go to MOONSHOT Inc. to support a program dedicated to developing sashiko artists and provide them a platform to showcase their work, giving this release a meaningful purpose.
