New Balance and atmos have unveiled a limited-edition MT580 “Land(E)scape” that pays homage to the beloved 90s-era model. To honor the original MT580, which grew to become a popular trail running shoe in Japan, the “Land(E)scape” variant adopts a vintage sensibility through a warm-hued all-leather upper with varying finishes.
Comprising contrasting leathers, the uppers are dominated by matte beige leather at the eyestays, the heel counters and the tips. Elsewhere brown suede details and ostrich-printed leather at the collar and toe box add an extra visual dimension and elegant materiality. Green leather is used for the tongue, which boasts a rubber “580” label, while the New Balance monogram appears in black leather at the quarter. Sectioned midsoles give the pair a more technical and weighted feel than more traditional New Balance silhouettes and black outsoles are embossed with a leather-like texture to tie into the uppers.
A special detail hidden in the insoles tells the story behind the new MT580 and honors the US’s M585, which served as the original reference for the 1996 runner. The MT580 “Land(E)scape” will be produced in limited quantities with only 580 pairs to be released.
The New Balance x atmos MT580 “Land(E)scape” will be released via a pre-sale lottery at the atmos web store store on November 15.
