Update: HAL STUDIOS® treated us to a preview of its upcoming ASICS project by revealing three GEL-KAYANO 20 samples back in January. Now, the strap-equipped design is set to launch in its off-white, black and brown color composition. Drawing inspiration from designs harkening back to the Space Age era, its retrofuturism-based look brings a distinct look to the sneaker world of today. Look out for pairs to drop exclusively via HAL STUDIOS® on October 29.

Original Story: ASICS built upon its success in 2022 by executing another year of hits in footwear for 2023. In accomplishing this, it owes some thanks to Australian label HAL STUDIOS® and its trio of GEL-1130 colorways that debuted two years ago and was rounded out in 2023. After pivoting to adidas for a small batch of VELOSAMBAs, HAL STUDIOS® looks to be making a return to the Japanese footwear brand with a new silhouette that has been revealed by HAL STUDIOS® creative director John Bouquet.

Based on the sole image of the “2024 prototypes,” HAL STUDIOS® has teamed up with ASICS to produce a new GEL-based silhouette that builds upon the brand’s DNA. The slick runner opts not for a traditional lacing system, but for a three-strap Velcro lockdown. As for the range of colorways, an all-black pair is joined by a white one with black overlays and a gray pair that features brown overlays with orange accents.

At the time of writing, no release details regarding the latest project from HAL STUDIOS® and ASICS have been disclosed by either party just yet. With samples still being developed, it’s likely this release won’t arrive until later in the year if it gets the go-ahead from both parties to be produced. Stay tuned for updates in the months to come.
