Dr. Martens is a cornerstone of many modern aesthetics, effortlessly meshing with various wardrobes and style preferences. A boot like no other, the classic 1460 boot is made for experimentation. For the past 60 years, the legacy staple has revolutionized footwear.
Built from Dr. Martens signature durable, hard-wearing leather, the 1460 features a classic 8-eye structure with DM’s distinctive yellow welt stitch. It can take wearers from the warehouses to festivals, to formal events, and beyond — and though it was initially designed for postmen and police officers, it has been embraced widely by style connoisseurs.
The 1460 is informed by Dr. Martens workwear heritage, but the 1460 Sub Boot’s upgraded construction includes newer, advanced features such as an updated “Bouncing Sole” extended up to the puritan stitch line for water protection. The boot’s upper blends a highly water-resistant Newlands leather with a breathable fleece lining, ensuring weather protection in even the toughest conditions.
Though these features were made for wear and tear, aesthetically, the signature shoe has become a canvas for innovation and inspiration for the brand. Subverting the 1460 as we know it, and elevating it with maximalist features, the 14XX Sub Boot has a modular design accented by a bold, distorted print.
“Our icon, the 1460 boot, is timeless. There’s a reason why the boot is still relevant over 60 years later; the design features are unique and speak to something much bigger than a boot, it’s a statement. When the team designed the Sub Boot, the ambition was to level up and evolve a workwear silhouette specifically for wet weather environments. Looking forward even further to the 14XX iteration of the Sub Boot, the icon is at the very center of the design, yet unseen by the world and hidden by a removable wind, sand and waterproof gaiter featuring a print that nods to snow camouflage,” Dr. Martens Design Lead, Joel Wilson, shared.
These reinterpretations of the shoe that spurred a cultural movement will come together in the brand’s AW24 campaign, which showcases the collection’s functionality in an ever-changing, urban environment. The Sub Boot and 14XX Sub Boot will be available online and in stores globally starting October 3.
