Anthony Edwards and adidas set the basketball shoe market ablaze with the AE 1, Edwards’ first signature shoe, during the 2023-24 NBA season. Now, early images of what may be Edwards’ second signature model have begun surfacing.
Reportedly dubbed the AE 2, the new model takes the TPU overlay from Edwards’ inaugural signature sneaker and warps it, making for an undulating exoskeleton that covers the entirety of the upper. Other key details include a new outsole design that creeps up onto the toe, heel and midfoot, and Edwards’ signature logo stamped on the tongue, all combining for a retrofuturistic look that falls in line with the design ethos of the Three Stripes’ other signature models for players like James Harden and Trae Young.
A previous report from Sole Retriever indicates that the AE 2 will utilize BOOST cushioning and either be released during the 2024 holiday season or the early days of 2025 with a MSRP of $130 USD, $10 USD more than his first signature model.
Edwards, of course, is one of the NBA’s most exciting young stars, leading the long-moribund Minnesota Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since the 2003-04 season when they were driven by Kevin Garnett — who, ironically enough, was an adidas Basketball athlete at the time — and even garnering comparisons to Michael Jordan along the way. Apart from his on-court feats, he’s also known for his personality, with the cheeky marketing campaign that accompanied the AE 1 garnering near-universal acclaim.
adidas has yet to make any official announcement regarding the AE 2, but stay tuned for more information as it’s made available.
