For its new spin on the Air Jordan 1, Jordan’s Jordan Brand Wings initiative is paying tribute to those who keep New York City running: the MTA workers. Wings enlisted 138 local NYC students to lead the design of a sneaker that paid tribute to “role models” and the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Subway” arrived on the scene as the byproduct.
Students in New York, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago and Philadelphia collaborated on the design, pitching their options to the Jordan team.
The end result? A two-toned gray silhouette adorned with the city’s subway lines throughout.
Entirely waterproof, the sneaker sees a reflective Swoosh stamped in the middle and a speckled outsole and sock lining.
“Thank You For All You Do” is written on the sneaker’s tongue, with “Always Go Forward” on the toe and “Do Not Lean On The Doors” on the quarter.
“WINGS” is written on the back of the heel in the MTA lettering.
The sneaker is available exclusively in grade school, pre-school, and toddler sizes, and runs for $125, $85, and $70, respectively. Take a closer look at the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Subway” in the gallery above.
