The New Balance 9060 stepped onto the scene in 2022 via a project with frequent New Balance collaborator Joe Freshgoods. Since then, it has appeared in a myriad of colorways, serving as a key model within the brand’s lifestyle offerings each season. Now, as New Balance continues to brew up new presentations of the sneaker, a reworked version of the shoe has been spotted.
Named the New Balance 8040, a new upper has been applied to the diamond-shaped sole unit of the 9060. Previewed in three colorways, each pair utilizes a suede upper with it favoring a Velcro strap instead of a traditional lacing system. Branding elements are more subtle than traditional New Balance looks as the “NB” logo appears in tonal embroidery at the strap while an “N” logo has been etched into the toe of the outsole. Its three initial colorways include a tan upper with a black sole and mudguard, an all-brown iteration and an all-navy finish as well.
At the time of writing, New Balance has not officially unveiled its new 8040 silhouette. Look for pairs to start popping up this fall via New Balance and select retailers and be sure to stay tuned as the brand is likely to reveal it later this year.
